Week in the life of a SaaS founder
Some context.
My SaaS is in the productivity industry, and it is built for project/task management.
At the moment, I spend 70% of my time on my web development agency, which is my primary source of income.
And 30% time goes to my SaaS. It will have more of my time as it becomes better financially.
The SaaS is called Self-Manager.net, and it is not a vibe-coded MVP done in 1 week.
I actually started working on it in my free time in 2016, and in late 2022, I launched it publicly.
My SaaS is 100% self-funded and does not have any investors at the moment.
Because I charge premium prices with my software development agency, I can afford to fund my SaaS and have time to work on it.
I can say that the best place online, as a regular person who is a Founder looking for feedback, is Reddit by far.
I got much more feedback and engagement than anywhere else(X, LinkedIn)
The schedule
The first thing that I do in my day is to start light and go for a coffee.
Then, when I come back, I use my app to plan my day. I rarely plan my days ahead and prefer to do it on that day.
The first task on the to-do list is to check the analytics of my 3 businesses and of my YouTube channel.
Then I proceed with working on my software contracts from my agency.
After that, I start working on tasks for my SaaS, Self-Manager.net
Most of the tasks are related to programming or marketing.
I saw some people saying that "building a SaaS is the easy part and marketing is the hard part".
Both are easy if you have the capital to hire people to do them.
Hiring people to do the programming in a decent way is easy, but you might be surprised to learn that finding great software talent is hard and expensive. So if you want a job done great, be prepared to spend a serious amount of money and time to find the right team.
As a person who didn't hire people for any of them, I can say that building it is way harder.
It is hard to build a solid software solution because you need to be very good at least at FrontEnd or BackEnd development and at least decent on the other one.
I think getting very good at one of them can take you 5 years and 1-2 years getting decent at the other one.
During the workday, I go out for coffee breaks and talk with my friends.
At the end of a week, I use my SaaS to review the week using the feature called "AI Period Summary".
Since I use the app daily and track my tasks and use the built-in time tracking, the AI has a lot of useful context.
For all the task/project management that I do, I use my app, Self Manager.net
I basically use the app for everything that has to do with tasks. From planning, reminders, any tasks, notes, reviews, and comments.
I usually work 7/7 days a week but, I take 1 or more days off when I feel that I need it.
And that is basically my schedule for a week:
1. Checking analytics
2. Software work for clients
3. Coffee Breaks
4. SaaS work - programming and marketing
